I have listened to that arguement before and though I agree that ritual cannibalism existed, see Heradotus, Hexrheim and other sites suggest that your neighboring ville might provide your next meal.

In Hexrheim they estimate that a 1000 people were et, in 50 years, and again in Mexico Human flesh was a part of the daily diet, see Prescott.
