I’ve been enjoying the old Mack Sennett silent comedies they’ve been running on Tuesday nights.

The most entertaining way to watch is to imagine Jimmy Stewart’s mentor, the senior Senator from his state (as played by Claud Rains), as “Sheets” Byrd (very much a look-alike, IMO) while recalling how much of WV is named for Byrd’s efforts. The film really doesn’t depart much from reality, IMO.

I know a woman who, for some strange reason, has gone absolutely bonkers in love with Claude Rains. Yes, I said Claude Rains. She saw him in some movie on TCM, and is now ordering every picture she can find of him online, LOL.
