First, Iran's currency has effectively imploded; our inflationary games along with our "sanction" regime has caused a 20% daily drop in the Iranian currency value against the dollar. This volatility in turn led to the disappearance of convertibility (duh!) which in turn means that things like food suddenly become very hard to obtain, even if you are putatively wealthy.
Second, Syria and Turkey are having a little dust-up that could turn very not little in a hurry. If you don't understand why this is important please get out a map and have a look at some of the potential problems that could immediately appear if this is not contained, and it may not be contained.
Janet Tavakoli penned a piece over on Huffington Post that deserves a read in this context. As I have repeatedly noted, hungry bellies have a habit of rioting -- or becoming rather revolting.

Yes I posted a thread on her “Truly Scary” article and it got pulled. Why I am not sure.
War in the Middle East seems certain, and the Israelis have made it pretty clear that early spring is the “red line” that Iran cannot be allowed to cross.
The best case scenario, of course, is that the Iranian Mullahs will lose control of their serfs and be overthrown. This seems unlikely, but it is not impossible.
HOWEVER, if it starts to look like regime change may actually be possible, the very fact that the regime is unstable could be the factor that triggers war. A time honored technique used by despots throughout history is to focus the attention of a restive population on an outside threat, real or imaginary.
In other words, if it looks like the Mullahs might actually be overthrown, the risk that Iran will attack Israel before that can happen goes sky high. That could happen BEFORE this spring.
Personally, I think time is short. It could be a matter of days if the situation in Iran spins out of control, or a few months if things wait until early spring. Either way, if you are considering “prepping”, you might not want to wait.

not nearly as prepared as I would like. Health issues for Mom and Dad ate alot of resources up. :( Just making it paycheck to paycheck.
That's something that I've wondered about for a long while, but have been leery of saying it, only suggesting that should the shine on the POS wear off, the media would certainly relish the ratings lottery of a 24/7/365 martyrfest and coverage of the violence and destruction of the enraged rabble. They voraciously consume others, so with that kind of appetite for ratings, money, and power, the media would happily eat their own if the food's better.
I watched the debate well after reading the commentary. I hadn't planned on it initially, but the tsunami of negative reaction demanded that I see what all the fuss was about.
I was expecting a much more animated and even hostile exchange, but this debate really was more like... a tsunami. Not much wave height at the start, but it kept slowly moving in and over obama, who realized that he couldn't outrun it.
I am wandering off onto another metaphor, but the dems/media are now trying to make lemonade out of the obamalemon, and they know that a citrus reamer will squeeze out the most juice. Not good news for the hapless lemon.
I think that the epic fail/fall was due to 1) the Won's extraordinary arrogance, and 2) the blood of Ambassador Stevens, his crew, Seal Team 6, and countless other obamavictims crying from the ground.
The dems will do anything to "revive" their puppet and force its worship. A false idol can be recreated to fit a particular narrative, especially if the dumb idol can no longer speak (e.g. MLK, JFK).
Meanwhile I'll just hope and pray that they will be restrained by their own incompetence and greed, because we know they are incapable of running a simple lemonade stand.
