My Dr is not anybody special, certainly correctable. She tells me to go with Canola, olive and avoid all tropical oils especially palm.
But I will ask her about coconut oil (unsaturated for sure)
She also told me that if anything I eat tastes good, I am to spit it out :)

Coconut oil is mostly made up of a type of fat called Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs). These types of fat are much more likely to be used for energy than other types of fat (especially the unsaturated ones), and are less likely to contribute to weight gain or artery problems...this is what I have heard, anyway. Some people even use it in small doses for weight loss, as it raises body temperature and stimulates metabolism, as well as acts as a powerful appetite suppressant due to the production of ketone bodies from the metabolism of the MCTs...I know that when I was taking a tablespoon in the morning with my coffee, I wasn't hungry until late afternoon or so, even with a very light breakfast.
I wouldn't recommend anything except listening to your doctor but it seems that he/she is just repeating the old (questionable) wisdom about saturated vs. unsaturated fats without regard to the other benefits of coconut oil.
