A man committed suicide live on Fox News a few minutes ago. FNC had been carrying a car chase in the Phoenix area and when the suspect pulled over, he ran down a dirt road, then stopped, put a gun to his head, and fell to the ground. You could hear Studio B crewmembers, who were watching a live feed of what was happening, gasp and Smith say, Get off, get off, get off, asking the control room to cut away. But they didnt in time.
Fox then went to a commercial break. Upon returning, Smith said, Well Ive got some explaining to do.
Smith explained that after the suspect excited the car, the network went into a five second delay, but that they failed to cut away.
We really messed up, and we are all really sorry. That didnt belong on TV. I personally apologize to you that that happened, Smith added That will not happen again on my watch, and I am sorry.

Crocodile tears. Not buying it. Shep should resign immediately and move to CNBC.
Thank you for posting the link. I showed it to my son, he needs to know what kind of evil exists that he needs to protect himself from when he gets older!
There’s more violence in a Wiley Coyote cartoon than this vid.
You’re always free to turn your TV off or switch channels if car chases bore or frighten you.
It is up to the all-knowing media to determine what 'we the sheeple' will see and how we should see it (and what we should think about it) so our sensibilities are not offended. /s
I always say there’s a reason the TV comes first in TV news. Which is why I almost never watch any, if something really big is happening (like 9-11, or a presidential election that I actually want someone to win) I watch but other than that I avoid it. Watched a lot of fox news last time I was unemployed, I blame depression.
I am also free to comment on our society and how Fox reflects some of the worst aspects of it.....I do not advocate censorship, because the “cure” would be worse than the disease.
Right, I saw it; the camera was very distant and nothing gory was visible. It was not terribly "graphic" or "disturbing," certainly not as disturbing as the videos of Libyans dragging off our ambassador.
I can't stand Shep and I hate his stupid car chases. When Shep comes on air I usually leave the room.
What I found more disturbing (than the carjacker's suicide) was the later "segment" with Erin McPike of RealClearPolitics.com. Shep repeatedly interrupted McPike as she tried to state a caveat in discussing poll numbers --i.e. that the pollsters' higher sampling of Democrats might be distorting the numbers. Shep wouldn't let her say it.
The guy just can't stop being a cheerleader for Obama.
Yet, you can hardly change the channel if the media propagandizes you with commentary disguised as news.
1. Oops
2. That is news
3. Shep Smith is a dope
No car chases for me. I’m watching America kick some European butt in the Ryder Cup.
I say they would be wrong if they didn’t show it!!!
sometimes there's not 24 minutes worth of news in a day.
Woulda been different if he'd gibbed himself up close.
Good shoot. Saves the tax payer the incarceration costs.
My condolences for his family though...
This is really blown out of proportion(No pun intended) I saw the video, its not that graphic, you see the guy with the gun pointed to his head, you get the idea, but you dont actually see it..Ive seen worse on violence on TV crime drama shows.
The violence isn’t even the issue, it’s covering local car chases on a national news network that is what’s silly.
It is the hypocrisy of pretending “we would never do this”, after doing this that gets me.
