I am afraid to watch it on my tiny 131" projector after seeing it on IMAX 3D. That was just an incredible experience. But then, I never go to the movies unless it is something I HAVE to see. Prometheus was the only movie I have seen in the theater this year. Only saw Tron Legacy last year. Ugh...
I just watched that episode. It’s the same thing that happened to “The Walking Dead”, dialogue scenes shot inside are cheap, so you get more cheesy soap opera instead of sci-fi. The Doctor playing wii and soccer ball tricks, Amy bickering with her husband, instead of more time on the alien ship.
And if the little girl was the android and local control thing, what were the two guys with the square holes in their faces?
I think we've had four mediocre episodes so far in this season. I dont think its anything to do with money. The storylines have been poor, the writing has been poor, even the acting has been nothing to write home about. Rory and Amy dont have much to do and Matt Smith is going too far over the top as the Doctor.
I've certainly not heard of any budget cutbacks on the show - which implies they are saving up the money for something big later on in the season. Next week's episode looks more promising.
That is what I thought as well, but the girls cross bobow is a very advanced design, that they have just begun to use recently. I can't imagine the cables and strings for that lasting 15 years.
The “premise” for the firearms was stated outright, that local junta leader had outlawed guns for all but his people. As for standard firearms brass doesn’t last forever, if you don’t have the power to run the machines to make new casings eventually you run out of brass to reload. They’re at pre-industrial revolution technology most of the time, at least when they have to make their own stuff.
Oh wow! I’ve just spent the last three hours downloading stuff from that link! Thanks so much for the info. Much more to explore!
I've read just the opposite on multiple firearms sites. If stored properly, such as a cool and dry environment, ammunition will last indefinitely.......
It’ll store forever. But if you’re shooting it and collecting brass for reloads it gets worn out. Of course in a pre-industrial environment even that storage has issues, 2 days walk from Chicago is frequently not cool and almost never dry.
FWIW, the Robert Adams' "Horseclans" series of books was set far off in the future, but even when firearms were available, they were generally shunned, since once the ammunition supply was exhausted, the firearms would become useless. There were also issues about reliability, but again, these books were set well off in the future. Finally, it was decided to teach the older weapons skills to their young, again because they didn't know if the supplies, like ammunition and spare parts, would be available in the future.
There were some characters that did use firearms exclusively, but there weren't very many of them. Interestingly, these were all descendants (and the original members) of a government installation.

Watched Prometheus last weekend (Russian download online...no, not me)
Wasn’t bad. Wasn’t too scary, either. As a prequel to Alien, I was expecting to be scared. (The first Alien scared the crap out of me.)
