“How come the debt problem wasn’t a problem before Obama?” Bill Maher asked on his HBO program “Real Time” this Friday. “It was not mentioned by anyone on the right. Bush never paid for anything.”
“Isn’t it also true that when Bush was president he didn’t pay for anything and that was okay because he was white? He had good credit. Suddenly when President Blackenstein gets in office, he has no credit at all. He’s got to pay everything with cash,” Maher said.
“It’s not because he’s black. It’s not that you’re black, we just don’t know you,” Maher joked.
“Well it was on the table with the grownups and the Tea Party wouldn’t let the grownups do it. It was on the table. Obama and John Boehner wanted a deal and the screaming babies with the tea shit hanging in their heads said no. That’s what happened,” Maher said about a proposed debt deal between Obama and Boehner.

The Debt WAS a problem before Obama. We used to complain about it under Bush, too.
Obama has just managed to expand it so fast (added $6 trillion to it in less than a single term!) that it is become absolutely vital.
I keep thinking people will eventually tire of the race card but it seems to be good forever.

This is why Maher is on television and not a historian. On television, he can say whatever he wants and no one really cares.
As a historian, people would be all over his butt for such a stupid and incorrect statement. MANY presidents have felt the public's wrath over excessive spending when the spending and subsequent debt didn't hold a candle to wht zero has done.
Maher and hgis other intelligently diminutive travellers can claim this is racism until the cows come home. It only shows that they are the racists and don't give a crap about this country.
When America is broke and empty suits like Maher are no longer being overpaid to be idiots on TV but are on the street begging for a dime to buy an apple, he might begin to get a clue.
