It was the fall of 2008 and the highest law enforcement agent in the country headed to the Windy City. Sensitive wiretaps were up and FBI agents were covertly recording what could turn out to be a spectacular public corruption case. I propose that there be an amendment to the constitution regarding presidential pardons. Either, 1) Presidential pardons must be ratified by two-thirds of the senate or 2) Any pardon made by a president shall be declared null and void by the supreme court if it is shown that there is not an ‘arms length’ distance between the president and the person pardoned. A president should not be able to shield himself from prosecution by dangling pardons in front of would-be accusers. Comments?
