If cell towers are down, he's outta luck. Better to have battery operated walkie-talkies. One for every member of the family and teach the kid how to use it. Expensive ones have 30+ mile range which might be good to get the wife home from work but the cheap shorter range ones would be better to communicate within your group's smaller listening range.
Excuse me, but 99% of us don't have the ways or means to have such a compound as that guy. What should the rest of us do? Kart, what if we had a "What would you do in XYZ situation" discussions... what would you do within the first hours of elections being cancelled? what would you do if you knew electricity was being shut off in 24 hours? Banks were closing that day? Terrorists hit within our borders?
Good ideas for discussions. I have wondered about some of those things.
People don’t realize that for the most part cell phones are just high tech extremely long reach cordless phones. Yes you can walk around, drive around what ever and talk but when the powers out and the batteries are dead or they lose their on land line or their link to a land line the cell site is dead.
