Word For The Day, Monday, 9/10/12
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
gainsay; verb
verb (used with object), gain·said, gain·say·ing. 1. to deny, dispute, or contradict. 2. to speak or act against; oppose.
Etymology: "to contradict," c.1300, lit. "say against," from O.E. gegn- "against" + say. "Solitary survival of a once common prefix" [Weekley], which was used to form such now-obsolete compounds as gain-taking "taking back again," gainclap "a counterstroke," gainbuy "redeem," and gainstand "to oppose."
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Here is my example with WFTD.

good morning!
I’m in LOVE!

After seeing the movie “2016”, I’ve been gainsaying Dinesh D’Sousa all weekend for his wholesale repitition of the false “details” of Obama’s birth. The movie was good, but I think it is a dis-service to the American public and to history to just mindlessly repeat the twaddle of the Hawaiian birth and African paternity when there is so much evidence to the contrary.
repitition = repetition

Note to pollsters - See:
Carter's, Dukakis', Gore's and Kerry's poll numbers after their conventions......
I don't remember President being attached to their names....Then again maybe my name is Rip Van Winkle and I've missed something here.....
Contrarily, A question that needs to be asked of the corrupt and race-baiting Holder with regard to his various defalcations is: 'Mr. Attorney (puke) General, will you gainsay again that your actions in the Philadelphia Black Panther voter intimidation case were improper?'
A proper formulation of an accusatory question in a courtroom is 'Do you deny that you...?'. It is not 'Say againsay that...?'
Today in trading, I'd like to make a nice gain; say, about $4500.
(On a roll, here.... ;^) )
I had to calm down my paralegal this AM, she came in in a panic bc of the polls showing a bounce for Obams. A+++ i told her she had to look to see which polls and whom they were polling, registered v. likely etc. It’s going to be a nailbiter up to the end.
need to get that to the paralegal so she can breathe again. thanks. A+++
i think decaf is in order!! ; ) A++++
Then add that the Obozo campaign is running TV re-election ads in California. My spouse is there right now and has seem them. California usually gets ignored and don't forget that Obozo has been whining about Romney's cash advantage.
So You gotta ask yourself ...... (In my best Clint Eastwood impression)
........if The election in the bag, why is the Obozo campaign wasting it's precious dollars in California
If I were to give up smoking, I would gainsay 50 pounds.
“Obamanomics,” so easy to gainsay
Hear what unemployed workers in Spain say
“O” loves socialist smother
Pits brother v. brother
Let’s check on what Abel & Cain say
Ah, what a start to the day....listening to hero Allen West give a rousing speech. Perfect.
In case you missed it....
Romney raised $111.6 Million in August the third month in a row above 100 Million and the largest amount so far.
No word from the Obozo camp about what he's raised.
What will it take to open people’s eyes about what frauds these two are?
