I used to hunt without/before hearing protection. I don't guess I'll ever get used to hearing these cicadas 24/7. Now I don't even cut the grass without muffs.
You can tell who doesn't have tinnitus. They're the ones who thought you were talking about real cicadas.

Are those the ones that come out every 7 years?
I've never quite figured that story out. I hear them every year.........Maybe some areas have an over abundance of them periodically but they're there, year after year......
Personally, I love their sound. It signals an end to the hot summer and the harvesting of the fresh crops that will soon be showing up at the local roadside stands where I live.......
Another sound that nobody gives any notice to are crickets. The summer is silent because the adults lay their eggs in the fall and then the eggs hatch in early summer. Throughout the summer they continue to grow until they become full adults then start cricketing to attract a mate. They mate, they lay their eggs and the cold weather ultimately kills off the adults.......Then the cycle is repeated next summer.

They started early here in the KC area. Pretty much died down now. They were loudest this year than in the past.

They came early(July?)this year here in MI also...no more than normal, but kind of unusual to hear them mid-summer. Same with the katydids. Also no June bugs and a unusually short/smaller Japanese beetle swarm compared to years past.
Think we're going to pay for that mild winter/hot summer with an early fall/cold & snowy winter this year.
Hope not...got spoiled last winter.

I had a cat that loved em. First, he’d pin one under his paw and ride it around the sidewalk as it buzzed, sorta like an air hockey puck, all within his reach of lying down, of course. After the bug worn down, he’d chew it down like carmel candy. The craziest thing to watch.

I'm surprised that you noticed them too. I heard the first ones back on June 24 at my sister's house in Grosse Pointe Shores.........I even marked it on my calendar because it was so unusual.

lololololol. When I first got my Mac, I hit the camera button and saw myself. I freaked out wondering who else was watching me watch myself in my jammies!! I didn’t know how to get out of it so I just turned off the power.

On the up side, you don't have to listen to (redacted to protect myself). Daughter now has a habit of grabbing my arm, spinning me around to face her and saying "You can damn well read my lips!" Meh... hearing loss is God's way of giving us an end-of-life bonus. Embrace old and grumpy. ;) /johnny My tininitus blends right in with cicadas and other such noises. Probably a result of too much shooting without ear protection in my younger days...
