The Phantom Stranger #0 is published today I mentioned it earlier, but there was one point I wanted to highlight separately.
The comic does not mention Judas or Jesus by name. But it is very clear who is meant to be who. Middle Eastern characters two thousand years ago, Judas suicide, the thirty pieces of silver, his appeal to be forgiven as he would forgive, its a blatant as it can be without actually naming names.
And while we know about the thirty pieces of silver round his neck, and how that becomes a motivating for for him in The Phantom Stranger #0, there was one piece that really stuck out from the issue.
Judas is wearing Jesus cloak. And becoming a superheroish character in the process.
Are there any other holy relics that might have similar properties hanging around the DC Universe?
I dunno, I was always more of a Marvel guy myself. They tended to stick with making comics about religious figures nobody believed in anymore, like Thor and Hercules.
Then Marvel started making comic books about gay cowboys, gay Canadians, gay mutants, gay...
Wasn’t someone lugging around the longinus spear?
DC Comics, a company not above anything editorially outlandish to get press and Bleeding Cool, a website not above anything that can be tabloid sensationalized = train wreck.
They also are introducing a mulsim Green Lantern. Maybe this Green Lantern could go prancing about in Mohammed’s shoes. In the name of diversity.
I remember the “Phantom Stranger” comic from the early-70s. Seemed a tad uneven, as I recall. I always LOVED the horror genre (atmosphere, monsters, spookiness)... yet was turned off by the specific theme of occultism. Too often, PS concentrated a bit on the latter.
