Soon he’ll be coming back for some Colt .45 from a brown paper bag.

Heh. Anything to render one of those guys too hoarse to annoy everyone in a 100 yd radius with its alarm call.
That said, I wonder if someone could get it to eat some Chantix to help it kick the habit. Or if that fails, said pills could be delivered via 20 gauge ;p
Fantasies aside, for those who know the birds better than I, are they still building nests this time of year? That’s what I usually think of when a bird is seen toting something strange. Or was it just obeying its inquisitive nature and examining something odd that it found?

We had some bossy scrub jays in our back yard in California.
They would shriek at us until we fed them each morning. They’re annoying little things, but they’re so pretty!
To: Kirkwood
It looks like a Scrub Jay to me. We don’t get them here in New England but have the Blue Jay’s who are just as smart. In the winter I feed the birds and the Blue Jay’s will stare at me through the window squacking away to let me know they want a refill.

The Blue Jays are the same. Way up north and in parts of Canada are the Gray Jays and I’ve seen photos of these birds eating Peanut M&M’s right out of peoples hands. I love corvids, obnoxious at times but very smart.

I’ve seen a squirrel clinging to the trunk of a tree with a cigarette in its mouth. Strange sight to wake up to.

I agree.
Here we have crows because we’re pretty much surrounded by corn fields. Crows and ravens are my favorites, then the jays.
