Greenpeace protestors thrown into Arctic by Gazprom oil workers

.

Activists protesting at Arctic oil drilling were thrown into the freezing Pechora Sea this morning by Russian sailors working for oil giant Gazprom.

14 activists from 10 countries attached themselves and their boats to the anchor chain of the Anna Akhmatova in order to prevent it from sailing out to the Prirazlomnaya oil platform.

When the first officer sought orders from management in Moscow he was told to “use any means at your disposal to continue operations," according to Greenpeace. At 5am this morning, he ordered two Gazprom ships to train high-pressure water cannons onto the Greenpeace inflatable boats.

Their occupants were washed out of the boats, and thrown into icy water some distance away. They were rescued and are safe, and not long afterwards the action was called off.

The Prirazlomnaya is the first permanent oil platform in the offshore Arctic and marks what Greenpeace calls “the creeping industrialization” of the Arctic. The construction phase on the platform is nearly complete, and Gazprom is eager to begin drilling and become the first oil company to commercially produce oil from the offshore Arctic.

“.... not long afterwards the action was called off.”

Nothing like a dip in cold water to brace up the mind and help sort things out.

The Greencommies have already stopped our drilling so they have to go after Russia.

As they are finding out, that strategy is a mistake. The Russians are not us and they will not be treated as a Western type democracy would treat them. Soon even they will sober up and stop. Kind of like how those Atheists never quite find the courage to go protest outside a mosque.

Never thought I’d support anybody in Russia doing anything except for their space program if they’re not trying to get an edge on us.

Keeping the world fueled is more important than feelings.

This is one time I am cheering for the Russians.

Greenpeace and similar Alinskyite communist organizations make nothing, encourage nothing; they only know how to disrupt and destroy.

Unlike the Western World, the Russians don't put up with this crap, the protesters should count themselves lucky that Russia didn't turn the machine guns on them...

Very true. I don't know how these nut jobs believe they can force other people to do their will simply because they demand it. Who do these green nuts think they are? The Russians had every right to just run them over if they didn't get out of the way.

These green creeps are nothing but pirates, and should be treated like pirates.

The Greenpeace dolts are lucky the oil platform didn't have a Spetznaz team on board. Spetznaz is not noted for playing silly games with idiots like this. So what if they got a 38 degree bath and will be fighting off colds and flu for the next few weeks? It still beats being cut up for fish food by the Spetznaz.

Greenpeace and similar Alinskyite communist organizations make nothing,......Lots of money from OUR gov. grants, charitable donations, etc. Good work if you can get it. Plus a free bath once in a while.

Greenpeace apparently never learns anything. They have been screwing with the Russians since the 80’s, and it always ends this way (or worse).

I strongly suspect these jerks will stick to harassing organizations from Western nations who will “respect” them even though they refuse to respect others.

Probably so, but Greenpeace may still avoid annoying the French - even with the new far-left leadership there. Unless, of course, they have a really big insurance policy on "Rainbow Warrior II".
