I know that drones can be armed but would it be practical to mount submachine guns (which only use handgun ammunition) on them considering they would be ineffective given the altitude and airspeed at which they cruise?

If the regime is considering arming the drones with .40 cal handgun ammunition, they could only be effective in close quarter ranges meaning the drones would have to be able to cruise at extremely low altitudes and at very low airspeeds (and even may need the ability to hover) in order to effectively engage a target.

When I think of the idea that our own government may arm drones to keep a watch on us some day, I keep coming up with the words, Skeet target!
