Have a serious talk to your son about how expensive it will be if repairs are needed for this type of vehicle. You may have already done this
Have it checked out by a mechanic, unless you’re acquainted with these types of trucks, it could save you, or at least prepare you, for a financial hit.
Who is paying for the insurance coverage?
If he’s earned the money himself, if he’s going to pay for things out of his own pocket, I’d reluctantly give the go ahead.
FWIW, I’d gone through this with 3 sons. They always think bigger than you’re prepared for!

Thanks for the good words. I was thinking a Ranger, maybe a Tacoma.
I will have him check it out six ways at least.
I pay nothing. This is his baby.

My son didn’t care what he drove, as long as it got him where he was going in some form or fashion. My daughter, on the other hand, made up for both of them. She came home with the hottest and fastest souped up Chevy in all of Johnson County, Kansas, in 1978 with her father’s blessings, the day after she turned 16. He sent a note home with her telling me it was none of my business, that he helped her find it and pay for it. Yes, she needed a car because she had to drive to school and worked but I was thinking more on the lines of a little VW bug!
