This date begins the Battle of Stalingrad within actual sight of the city, opening with a battle between Axis and Soviet armor brigades and the destruction of the Soviet air force by the Luftwaffe by August 31st, leaving the city of Stalingrad defenseless from being bombed to rubble.
This ‘WWII Plus 70 Years’ thread of yours just turned the page on opening a six month long bloodbath. We’ll see the end of this battle in another thread at the start of next February.
