OCEANSIDE (CBSLA.com) Authorities are looking for suspects in an animal abuse case involving a turtle that was duct-taped to helium balloons.
A resident was outraged by what he saw and videotaped the turtle as it was swinging it arms up in the air.
Soon after, the balloons got caught in some trees and firefighters were able to rescue the reptile.
I bet it was terrified, dangling back and forth because the wind was pushing it side to side, said Joel Rabago, who saw the turtle.
Its animal abuse. I mean, if you didnt want the turtle give it away, take it to a pet store. Theres lots of agencies for turtles, Chanelle Wright said.
Authorities say the person responsible could face animal cruelty charges.
At least they didn’t stick a firecracker up its butt.
Perhaps he volunteered for the mission.
“Authorities” seem to have too much time on their hands. Isn’t there a real criminal somewhere you could be hunting?

Adds a whole new twist to the “you know he didn’t get there by himself” saying...at least the view’s better than from the top of a fence post!
Except that when officers arrived on the scene, they shot the threatening turtle.
When a society accepts partial birth abortion, abortion on demand, abortion for minors without parental consent, selective eugenics, doctor-assisted suicide, state-sanctioned euthanasia, honor killings, etc., acts such as this should not come as a surprise.
“Soon after, the balloons got caught in some trees and firefighters were able to rescue the reptile.”
Congratulations are owed to the firefighters and to the turtle; however, strictly speaking, isn’t a turtle an amphibian rather than a reptile?
“... they shot the threatening turtle:.
Bwahahahaha!
No, it is a reptiles of the order Testudines.
I bet it was quidam.
“The turtle didn’t look terrified at all in the video. He looked rather stoic, as turtles always do.”
More than stoic, I would go so far as to say heroic. Brave turtle, a pioneer of reptilian aviation, Testudines Aviator!
“Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds...and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of...wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up, the long, delirious burning blue
I’ve topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, nor even eagle flew.
And while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space...
...put out my hand, and touched the face of God.”
I hope my tax dollars are not being wasted on this sh@@.
I know it was cruel, but I can just see in my mind a very curious 9-year old doing an “experiment” without thinking of the consequences to the turtle. He may not have even believed the balloon could cary the turtle’s weight.
Actually yes. It has been my experience over the years that people treat "dumb" animals better than they treat their own progeny.
Looks like he made history for turtle kind as being the first to fly.
