I'm a monthly contributor who is going to vote the Romney/Ryan ticket (and conservative all the way downticket). For those who cannot bring themselves to vote for Romney/Ryan, I have to respect their opinion and their standing on principle, even if it might result in an Obama re-election should the election be very close (Remember that Bush won Florida by only 537 votes and losing Florida would have made Al Gore president).

I also respect the fact that Jim Robinson, even though he has stated he will not vote for Romney, does not condemn other Freepers for doing so and has basically called for a truce between the ABR folks and those who believe that Romney, despite his shortcomings, is better than Obama and thus will vote for him.

What I can't respect are those few posters who spam every single thread with their anti-Romney vitriol and attack other Freepers as turncoats and RINOs for deciding to vote for Romney - despite the fact that Romney was the first choice of virtually zero Freepers. I believe they are counter-productive. They aren't going to win anybody over to their point of view with their line of attack and they are driving a wedge in Free Republic that need not be there. Who knows how many good Freepers they have driven away.

Well they won't drive me away but neither will I engage them and add to the infighting that is already going on.

I've been here 15 years and been through some tough times here - we'll get through this time as well.

Getting back to the exchange between Jim Robinson and Don-o regarding Freepathon ads, I side with Jim. The Freepathon ads do not annoy me and compared to most websites, the advertising here (if you can call it that) is very unobtrusive. Much credit needs to go to the Free Republic Freepathon crew who keeps this forum in operation. Anti-Freepers have been standing on the sidelines for years, wishing for us to go under, chortling at every Freepathon that gets to its goal slowly. But we always find a way to hit our target and stay alive for another few months. The Freepathon crew cannot be thanked enough.

I've been giving $30 a month to Free Republic for a number of years and it's pretty painless. I wouldn't say I'm wealthy or anything - probably I'm on par with the average Freeper with respect to household income. If everybody who came to this site on a regular basis donated at least $10 a month, we'd probably never have another Freepathon again and who knows, maybe the monthly Freepers would start getting swag like coffee mugs and T-shirts again, like in the old days - if more regular Freepers kicked in.

Sorry for the long-winded reply but one more suggestion that might help. Maybe we could do something to set the monthly donors apart - like having their screen name show up in bold red on the board or something like that. This would identify the monthly donors in the forum and might help entice others to want to get that special touch to their screen names as well.

It’s been a very frustrating 3+ years for conservatives. Even with big wins in the 2010 election, our agenda is frustrated by Obama and by Republican career politicians who have grown fat and wealthy feeding at the government trough.

But, we haven’t seen anything yet. If Obama wins this fall, he will use the powers ceded to him by the Congress to rule by fiat in a way never before seen in this country. He will defy the Congress to do anything to stop him, and they oblige by ranting and raving and caving like a cheap suitcase. Voters, not politicians, can stop this, but we must start by defeating Obama. Did I mention that we have to defeat Obama? No other outcome will suffice.

______________________________________________

Thank you...

Its unfortunate that some FReepers attack those of a different opinion as ObamaBots and mentally ill and members of DU...

Much of the activity in the threads is instigated by those who have determined to vote for Romney no matter what their reasoning...

I think if they left the others in peace and did not attack when a comment containing words identfiying Romney as less than acceptable is posted...

Personally I have been maligned for my own stand for Conservativism to the point that I have wondered I should ignore the nastiness or laugh it off or fight back...

I have found that much of the posts are from FReepers attempting to beat down and force silence on those who want to expose the terrible liberal record of Willard Mitt Romney ...

In another time I would hope the reluctant “RomneyBots” would have recoiled at the very suggestion that they might willing vote for a liberal such as Romney and then also go as far as mock those who refuse to...

I dont remeber a time in the last 40 years when the Republicans have not come together behind the winner of the primary and gladly joined in an all out effort to get the GOP candidate elected..

A month ago a local woman complained to me that she could not get enough people to work in Romney’s campaign and she didnt know why. I did suggest to her a change of candidates might help greatly to which she looked astonished..

I dont know of another election year when that same woman didnt have more than enough willing hands and all the local needs covered..

Nobody seems to like Romney in our area...for the first time pastors have taken to begging their congregations to vote in November...the choice being, I am told “the Godless or the Mormon”

So if the opposition get a bit enthusiastic for your taste, just understand...they are fervent in their Conservativism and rejection of the liberal Romney...

and they are not alone in their warfare...the RomneyBots and others are equally as guilty of spam...and accusations...

BTW I dont call anyone a RomneyBot until they attack my stubborn forever stand...

I feel sorry for those who feel they have no choice but to vote for Romney, but theres no excuse for namecalling...

I will not be voting for Willard Mitt Romney...

My NO is forever...

Good post Sam Adams.

I finally have reached a point in my life where I can donate monthly. I’ve been here since August ‘98, so I’m starting my 15th year. Husband of Marie Antoinette, and the Lauren that we took to DC for the FreeRepublic March for Justice. That guy! Worked on the stage crew and everything.

I went through many crushing years of financial struggle, and I’m glad I can finally donate, so I signed up for the monthly.

I was really, REALLY annoyed that Romney won the nomination, but I got just as annoyed that, just when Romney is starting to show me just how much fight he has in him, and picked Ryan, the ONE GUY that has ever got in Obama’s face, that JimRob posts an anti-Romney thread that went over 4,000+ posts.

You can imagine my frustration. I’m donating to a guy that is working against the better of the two guys that are running for President. Damnit!

However, I used a link to that very thread to convert a Democrat leaning friend of a friend who is gay, and his main issue is gay marriage, and wouldn’t you know it, it worked? He’s voting Romney/Ryan.

I very nearly undid my monthly donation after the big 4k post anti-Romney thread, but I’m continuing on. Jim, I love ya man, but I have to vote for someone that can win, and it seems to me that Romney is willing to poke Obama right in the eye with a sharp Ryan-shaped stick. He can do math, and deal with reality, and I think it’s a huge step in the right direction. Gay stuff and abortion stuff is important, but right now it’s on my back burner. Save the country first then worry about stuff like that.
