On the 43rd anniversary of the legendary Woodstock music festival, held in Bethel, New York, a series of remarkable photographs taken at the time offer a window on the landmark event celebrating music and peace. Woodstock Music & Art Fair was staged at Max Yasgur's 600-acre dairy farm in the Catskill mountains near the hamlet of White Lake from August 15 to August 18, 1969.

At the same time the rest of us were “sunbathing” in the mud of SE ASIA.

the smiley face hasn’t been in vogue since the mid 70’s.
I suspect it’s resurrection will be short lived.

At least you got to see U2 before Bono turned into a liberal prat.

I saw them in 1982 on the “October” tour.
J Giels opened.

I tell ya what.
I used to go to bluegrass festivals in the 70’s and it was an opener.

Old coots, young long hairs, hell angels, moonshine in a jar, marijuana. It was all good.

LOLOLOLOLOL... Oh dear God...but did they breed?

Yes, they did,and some of them are now red blooded conservatives raising kids with religion, decency, and without pot and acid in the fridge. My friend is one of them. Funny!

I don’t think it is odd for any generation to wax nostalgically about their long lost youth.

Ha ha ha, I can top you. I buy my baby cloth diapers made in small batches by a small American co, and I needed a bunch of new ones. One of the only designs left was peace signs, which normally I prohibit my kids to wear because of the liberal version of it: lay down and kiss your enemies’ tanks because war is ALWAYS WRONG.

So now how do I write “through strength” over and over on This diaper? Lol!

I never was a huge CSN fan, but I have seen Niel on at least 12 occasions.
I don’t care what skynyrd thinks.

“Waxing nostalgically” is just a tad bit different from “obsessing over and wanting to re-live every tiny detail and forcing everyone else to re-live it, too.”

Maybe you could bleach them every time you wash them so the design fades? Might be easier than taking a marks-a-lot to them...

“It was 43 years ago and I’m sorry I missed it. You really need to lighten up, man. Maybe seek professional help.”

Going to music concerts was something young people did, if they could. It wasn’t “political” to attend.

The music from that era has not been matched since, in tems of popular youth styles, period.

Most of those performers went on to have long successful music careers; some are still making good music.

Woodstock was not the first or the last big outdoor music festival ever held. In California Coachella and Dana Point come to mind. Hardly free, though.

The only noteworthy error that the WWII Generation...also known as "The Greatest Generation"...made was raising the Boomers. The majority of Boomers turned out to be decent, hard working and responsible (I'd like to think that *I* turned out to be reasonably respectable and responsible) but a very noticeable percentage were, and still are, worthless, narcissistic, hedonistic punks and bums.

In 1969,at Ft Knox,KY...during my early days of BCT...I was so depressed and scared that I toyed with the thought of desertion. While standing in line one morning for chow "Suite:Judy Blue Eyes" blared from some radio (I think it was *in* the mess hall) as we shivered in the cold. That song lifted my spirits so much that the thought of desertion left my head.It could be said that CSN very possibly saved my life (or at least saved me from serious trouble).

So I would recommend an outdoor country music concert if you ever have the chance to go to one.

I hear you. I'm more of a metal/industrial kinda guy and my wife is a huge country fan. I've seen the same differences in concerts. The country crowds are much friendlier, nicer, and just better behaved. It's Hobson's choice for me: Music that rocks with a rude crowd, or music that makes my ears bleed with a friendly crowd.
