On the 43rd anniversary of the legendary Woodstock music festival, held in Bethel, New York, a series of remarkable photographs taken at the time offer a window on the landmark event celebrating music and peace. Woodstock Music & Art Fair was staged at Max Yasgur's 600-acre dairy farm in the Catskill mountains near the hamlet of White Lake from August 15 to August 18, 1969.

I would venture to say that most of the Yoots of today are far more liberal than we were in the 60s/70’s.
They may have been dirty stinking hippies but dang it Hendrix at Woodstock was a good album.

When I was a kid we had Mexicans come to Ohio every harvest top pick the crops.
But we never had any crime come with it and every autumn they would go home.
Life was simpler then

Local onion farm here, back when ICE was actually doing their job, netted 280+ illegals at one farm that had 300 employees.
Immediately after those 280+ were nabbed, the local crime rate dropped like a rock.
Local officials were baffled by that.
Interesting back story re: Joni Mitchell.
She chose not to attend/perform at Woodstock to do the Dick Cavett show in NYC.
Later she would write the very haunting song “Woodstock” which CSN later rocked-up and had a big hit.

What kind of a fad lasts 30-40 years? When the peace symbol and smiley face are the current “fads,” someone, somewhere is stuck in a time warp. Are the “fashion” designers living in groundhog-day-land? Everyone is always saying “let’s move on” about really serious issues, but the clothes industry seems to have been stuck in the late 60s for decades.
That was when I learned just how dirty and smelly the hippies were and wanted no part of them after that. The upside, I did get to see some great musical performances from acts like U2, Van Halen, Ozzy, Scorpions, David Bowie, Joe Walsh and Stevie Nicks. But that aside, I vowed never to go to another music festival.
When I finally got back to the barracks (I was stationed in Camp Pendleton at the time), I took the longest hot shower of my life!
Then the next morning, when we reported for duty, those of us that went were lined up and sent for drug testing. I was concerned that exposure to second-hand marijuana smoke would destroy my military career but fortunately it didn't register a positive result.
As an aside, I did attend a few (single-day) country music festivals with my wife during the 1990s, but that was a much different crowd. Mostly clean-cut people who picked up after themselves and left the place as clean as they entered it. Lot of American flags and good vibes. So I would recommend an outdoor country music concert if you ever have the chance to go to one.
