LANCING, Tenn (WVLT) -- Lilliard Daniel was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the killing of Calvin Howard.

Deputies found Howard shot to death at a home on Nashville Highway in Lancing around 10 a.m. Wednesday.

"He's the kind of son every man would hope for, long for, pray for and then be rewarded with," said Calvin's father Melvin Howard. " He worked here on the farm, took care of business, went to church every lord's day."

His father told Local 8 News Calvin was a husband, father of three and owner of Production Acres-- a hay distribution business that he took pride in.

"He was very intelligent and dilligent, working long hours to try to make it work for his employees as well as his family," Melvin Howard said.

But his employees and family are left heartbroken after a typical Wednesday ended in tradgedy.

According to deputies, Calvin was shot to death by Lilllard Daniel who is in 80s.

Calvin's dad also told Local 8 News he thought the shooting may have been caused by a misunderstanding. He said Daniel asked Calvin to do some work on his home and later claimed he was cheated.

His father said Calvin went to explain to Daniel how the chemical he sprayed worked and attempted to make things right when his family thinks things got out of hand.

The Morgan County Sheriff's Department has not confirmed what lead to the shooting.

The community is now mourning the loss of a good man and succesful farmer. His family said they will remember him for the great man he was.

"It was an honor to have him as our son for 39 years. Best blessing a man could hope for," Melvin Howard said.

Calvin Howard was 38 but his father said he would have turned 39 in December.
