Word For The Day, Wednesday, August 15, 2012--atrabilious
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
atrabilious (at-rah-BIL-yes)
adjective: 1. melancholic; gloomy. 2. irritable; ill-natured; peevish
Etymology: Origin: 164555; < Latin ātra bīli ( s ) black bile + -ous
A mean word that means as it sounds, and a fluid pronunciation in keeping with its etymology: black bile.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification.
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
Here is my example with WFTD.
The Obama campaign has been having mood swings that range from atrabilious to euphoric, depending upon how effective they are in demonizing the brilliant Paul Ryan.
No pushing at the door please!
Here you go, early birds!
If anyone wants on (or off) the PING LIST, please let me know.
You're first. And scary!!! Great picture. A++++
The ever more atrabilious froth emanating from the Left is a clear indication of their realization that November 06, 2012 will indeed herald The End of an Error.
A++++
Plenty of time for fundraisers. No time to meet with economic advisors or cabinet.
dang! you are making us look bad, truthy! up early, and new bulletin boards and handouts etc! : )
Disguising liberal hatred as “art” by smearing religious figures with animal dung, paint, and human urine is artabilious in every one of its meanings. ....
A++++
I had an opposite experience, chatting with a 70-something gentleman at my health club. He said that Ryan scares him, and went on to say how much he loves Medicare. I tried to explain how Medicare will go bankrupt if nothing is done. He replied that (none other than) Al Gore said that all we have to do is raise the gasoline tax a dime a gallon and we could fund Medicare forever. I said, “Why don’t we raise it a buck a gallon and eliminate world hunger?” The fact that nobody 55 or older would be affected by changes in Medicare is lost on him as well.
An attribute of biliousness is more devoutly to be wished-for, NOT!
But there is something worse than being atrabilious, and that is being atrajimmious.
A++++
Well put.

On your “atra” scale, I suppose atrabarryious would be the worst.
well there will always be the irredeemably moronic, i guess. at least that guy is safely in NJ which isn’t likely to go for Mitt, not that there aren’t tons more of that viewpoint across the country. Though the paralegal said she saw an RNC ad last night addressing the medicare situation and she thought it was clear and a good one. I personally haven’t seen it.
she also said that Sarah Palin on Greta last night asked why Obams wasn’t dumping the gaffe-prone Uncle Joe for Hillary? we LOVE joe biden right where he is, saying what he says, why would she propose dumping him????
Hi Truthy! I’m off to school and shall return with homework. Fun word today!
Good morning. If you need an extension on the homework, a bottle of Macallan always seems to make me more amenable.
One is better off not chatting with atrabilious old geezers at health clubs whose only concern is for themselves and not for the future generations of America.
I wonder if the taxpayers also pay for his membership?
Pardon my acrimonious attitude. I just heard on FOX News that Obamacare will be looting Medicare of over 700 BILLION Dollars.
A+++++
I think you hit the nail squarely on the head. Far too many people look at elections with self-interest as their only guiding principal. The last few words of the Declaration of Independence would be anathema to them:
And for the support of this declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.
(It doesn't say, "Don't mess with my entitlements.")
