I don't feel like talking about Chairman Obama's plots, Nazi Pelosi's plastic surgery mistakes, Harry Reid's dementia, or the fact that we're on the edge of total economic, social, and political disaster. (In other words, let's pretend Ronald Reagan is still president, at least for this thread.)
Anyhoo, let's let our hair down! Let's chit-chat about music. So tell me, FRiends, what are your favorite types of music, your favorite songs, or favorite songs ?
As I got older I listened to what my older brother and sister listened to. I liked Grand Funk Railroad and Ten Years After my brother listened to. I liked The Grass Roots and Gary Pucket And The Union Gap my sister listened to.
As a kid I was a fan of The Monkees and 'bubblegum' type music like The Archies.
When the movie '2001' came out I listened to more classical music.
In high school I listened to heavy metal like Black Sabbath.
I liked Led Zeppelin okay when they came out. But when I heard their album Houses Of The Holy I became a big fan.
'Houses' became my favorite album and The Song Remains The Same is my favorite song.
Good stuff!
What I listen to depends on my mood. I still love 80’s Hair Band stuff (Ratt being a favorite), but also enjoy some really light stuff, like what you’d hear when getting a massage. The Beach Boys and The Cars are two bands I never turn off when they come on the radio.
As for favorite songs, they change often, (although my top pick has been #1 ever since I first heard it). Here goes:
1) DOUBLE—Captain of Her Heart. Not sure why I love this song so much. It’s very dreamlike and the vocals are perfect. Don’t get to hear it much these days.
2) BENJAMIN ORR—Stay the Night. Another great ‘80s song.
3) GUSTER—Satellite. I just love the melodic feel and the song flows perfectly.
4) THE CHURCH—Under the Milky Way. This song was 25 years ahead of itself when it came out, and it still sounds fresh today.
5) DIESEL—Sausalito Summer Nights. Lots of great High School memories with this one, plus the guitar riff is awesome.
By the way, I do love country music. My wife and I are big George Strait fans.
My parents were lefties, so I grew up hating hippie music. As a form of teenage rebellion (that has yet to end) , I got into punk rock. I do love the Rolling Stones, however.
Bach is ultimate favorite for classical with Vivaldi and Handel or other Baroque music as second.
Old time country - Appalachian type music, classical Indian ragas, Balinese and Javanese Gamelan, Bulgarian vocal music. I stopped listening to rock years ago but Motown and Stax type labels were my favorite, Otis Redding, Aretha, Chuck Berry etc. Loved Dylan when he first appeared in 1962 and as long as I ever listened to him. John Mayall and Clapton in the early days.

Same here. I love all the old LA bands - the Weirdos, Deadbeats, Alleycats, Dils (even though they’re commies), Circle Jerks, X, Germs. My misspent youth!

Mrs. Absolutely Nobama’s favorite type of music as well. My wife has the world’s largest collection of Hair Band albums, CD’s, T-shirts, and knick-knacks, etc. She has a Hair Band song for every occasion.

Punk was never really about poltics-—it was more or less about rebellion. Punk bands tore into the libs just as much they did Conservatives-—Check out “California Uber Alles” the original version, by the Dead Kennedys.

The Stones are older than my parents, as crazy as that sunds. I think Mick is pushing 70.

I don’t like the Stones much past Let it Bleed.. but their early songs rule.
forgot to mention I’m a fan of Return to Forever, Weather Report, Mahavishnu and many other artists in the Jazz fusion category.
Also quite a bit of Jazz, the blue period of Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck, etc..

I grew up in So Cal in the early sixties and remember when surf music was everywhere. I still love it!

The J. Geils Band opened for them. Singer Peter Wolf was dating Fay Dunaway at the time. She was off the stage, at the right.
A very good concert The Stones opened with Honky Tonk Woman.
The Ride of the Valkyries with the smell of napalm. Oh, and in the morning.
Classic: Eagles, Beach Boys, Byrds, Dylan, Joan Baez (can’t stand her politics, like her music). Modern: Trop rock (Buffett and his style), story-teller in Jim Croce/Harry Chapin style (Hugo Duarte, Rob Mehl, Jim Hoehn, Don Middlebrook). Also just about any version of Amazing Grace.
I saw the Stones in Oakland in probably 1969, first was Ike and Tina Turner. They were much better than the Stones.
Also saw the Stones at Altamont. Not a good experience.
