Bashar Assad, President of Syria, has killed several thousand Syrians to preserve his government. The Syrian “rebels” want to overthrow it.
Abraham Lincoln starved to death and murdered 360,000 Americans rather than let them form their own government in their own states. His words were “ I cannot let them go”. What he meant was that the Union could not sustain itself without Southern tax revenue. The slave issue was written in by the victors to cover the actual issues.
If Bashar Assad is a muderer for killing his own to subjugate them what does that say of Lincoln?
I’m no fan of slavery- there are better ways to pick cotton.
But- some of the Founders (Jefferson among them if I’m not mistaken) were cool with the right to secede if things “went south”, so to speak.
Preserving the “union” under oppressive conditions worked, but has left a bitter taste many still remember through family lore.
We are all created equal. There is no guarantee of equal outcome.
I wonder how many Americans died at Andersonville and Ft. Pillow to name a few places.
