At first, the parents humored him, thinking he would grow out of it. As he grew older, though, his “feminine” side became more apparent, in spite of what the parents did.

IOW, this little boy grew up to be quite flamming.

The point is, having watched this, I think the condition is something you’re born with.

Probably quite true. However.

Most birth defects are not the result of a gene. They are the result of a gene that doesn't implement properly during growth of the fetus, or of environmental factors during pregnancy.

IOW, the genetic code is like the blueprint of a house. If the completed house leaks, it is more likely the result of a failure to properly follow the plans than it is of the plan itself.

I strongly suspect some children are, sadly, born with strong cross-gender tendencies, possibly due to hormonal shifts in the mother at crucial stages in development.

But genes probably have little or nothing to do with it.
