Id rather walk in a Detroit blackout than a sunny afternoon in Southside Chicago. At least I have a legal fighting chance in Detroit.

Fourteen Dead in Eight Days

And they’re traveling in from as far as Peoria to spend time in our morgue:

Chicago police discovered a Peoria man shot dead on a South Side street this morning, authorities said.

Officers responding to a shots fired call found the victim lying on a sidewalk in the first block of East 56th Street in the Washington Park neighborhood just before 3:30 a.m., police said, citing early reports.

The man, Terrell Joshua, 28, suffered gunshot wounds to his body and wasn’t responding to police.

[...] Hours after the shooting, police still had few leads regarding the slaying, already the 14th this month. It was unclear exactly why Joshua was in Chicago, though court records showed that he had previously lived in Chicago until the late 2000s.

Doesn’t somebody have a new strategy? We seem to be running dry here.

On a side note:

Obama returns to Chicago Sunday for four fundraising events, including a 51st birthday celebration

Obama returns for four fundraising events, including three intimate shindigs to ring in his 51st birthday. (Obama turned 51 on Aug. 5.)

The president then heads to a party hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama at his Kenwood home. The price tag to attend is $40,000 per person.
