Carbonite famously dropped Rush Limbaugh on a Saturday Night at the height of the Sandra Fluke controversy. Carbonite became the poster child for the Rush boycott movement organized by Media Matters, which coordinated the effort with so-called independent groups.
Since that time the Stop Rush effort has imploded, with backstabbing and accusations among the participants. Limbaugh has had better numbers than ever, and the hype surrounding Mike Huckabee as a Limbaugh replacement has gone flat.
Yet what became of Carbonite?
On August 1 Carbonite released its 2d Quarter 2012 results, the first full quarter after dropping Limbaugh in March. The results shocked Wall Street, as Carbonite did not meet its growth targets, causing multiple analysts to drop the target price. The stock dropped 15% in a day.
Most important, in a conference call held on August 1, the CEO David Friend admitted that dropping Limbaugh damaged Carbonites growth, and is likely to do so for at least one or two more quarters.

So the CEO that made this decision, got together with a recently departed executive (planned?) and started a competing business? Did this guy sabotage his own company purposely? Or does he just think he is the wheeler dealer of the year?
In any case, looks like he single handedly destroyed Carbonite."
Wow, he trapdoored Carbonite. And the remaining shareholders will just sit there and take the punch in the face...
My guess is that Carbonite and Friend's new competitor will both fold. Other than someone's home or business burning down and not having back up in another location (which rare for business), I still don't understand the benefit of "cloud" backup. Sheesh, you can buy mega, mega, mega bits of storage for nothing nowadays.
Unless you're not there and haven't backup elsewhere, you can just grab your SD card, thumb drive, or external hard drive (300+GB's) and run in an emergency! Or just grab your frigging laptop that probably has more than 300GB's. Guess it's about not being home or at work when a fire or tornado hits and you want to pay some "cloud" for backup when there are so many ways to do it otherwise?
Am I the only one who thinks this was a stupid idea? Plus, if hackers can break into Pentagon security - Carbonite is foolproof? Sheesh. Buy some thumbdrives and/or an external hard drives. I don't get the problem.
I have a 300 GB Maxtor external hard drive and I simply right click on the files I want to transfer and scroll down to the Maxtor drive. Click copy and done. I can grab and run. But then most of my files, including graphics are on a 32GB thumb drive.
Yes, you videophiles and businesses need more - so buy a back up server (cheap now) and transfer your files off location via encryption. I'm a novice, but even I can see this a solution for a non-problem.
BTW, did you know you cannot delete your Facebook page? I've tried. If I log back on - there it is. You can disable it, but never delete your info. Zfuckerberg is a brilliant pr**k.
