He was a rescue about two 1/2 years ago he was hanging around in my yard. He had a claw sticking in his head, and it looked like it might be getting infected.. So I took him to the vet for treatment. From then on I kept him in an 6 by 8 enclosure on the side of my house.
He would want me to sit down in a yard chair and he would jump in my lap and snuggle with his head on my chest. GREAT CAT.
Well, when I took him back for further treatment He had a temperature of 104.2 followed the next day by 105.2 and the vet called and said they thought it was fungal infection, 'valley fever'. and he thought it might be time to let him go. as we had already spent $450 dollars and it would cost another $250 to test for certainty and the cost of the medicine was costly. I inquired about the older cheaper medicines, etc. He did not say much else, but he was 'sorry'.
I called back later and spoke with his partner regarding safety of putting other cats in the enclosure. Was told it was not contagious. So no worries. He said KeeKee might have had the spore breathed in for a long time and his immune system kept it down, and then his immune system could not handle it and it overwhelmed him.
Nothing to do but get over it. Life goes on. I greatly appreciate that I had him for 2 1/2 years.
So I am very sad today. He was a beautiful cat, and I miss him. I do have 2 other cats. Neutered Females without claws that stay in the house and garage; and the enclosure too. That is why the enclosure was built.
God bless.
Losing a pet is like losing a member of the family. It's always a very sad time. But, KeeKee is no longer in pain. Take a little time to grieve.
Enjoy the 2 you still have. God Bless you.
I am so sorry for your sad loss of KeeKee..
I know how very hard it is to lose a beloved pet.
Geo, I am SO sorry about your loss! My eyes got all misty, when you told us how he would snuggle with his head on your chest.
Please take a few moments to watch this video about Rainbow Bridge. I watch it occasionally, thinking of my little Lindy, who passed away almost two years ago...
