I love the film and find this rehash trailer very entertaining for 3 reasons. It's funny because it's so different than the nature of the real film.
It's clever because it's such a obvious comment on the film industry.
It's fun to watch anyway as it is admittedly exciting.

The genre and special effects were so fresh back when it was released. I don't think it would work today, though.

Thanks.
Admittedly, I’m from the “Star Wars” generation, but “2001” is SUCH a bore. Kubrick did some good stuff, but I think he’s vastly overrated. “2001” felt like the ultimate in “Look how awesome I am” art-house nuttiness.
I had not heard any advance buzz about Star Wars. I still remember seeing the trailer for the first time and telling my wife and my friend, "I have GOT to see that movie"!
That was pretty sweet.
It wasn’t made to work like other narrative films work. It’s closer to music than cinema. Or some combination of the two. I’m guessing your kids haven’t seen many experimental or avant garde films?
Kubrick only made ten feature films that he acknowledged as his own (sufficient resources, no other directors involved). It’s really a very good batting average.
LOL :)
2001 is one of the most over-hyped flicks of all time. And you're correct, it was super-slow. But this was a Kubrick film, so all the film critics and hoity-toity intellectuals climbed over each other to praise it. I saw it and lost concentration several times. However, the b word cannot be mentioned in many circles about a Kubrick film. But I don't care (nobody has ever invited me to Manhattan cocktail party...nor should they)...except for several sequences...the flick was BORRRRRRRRRING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Actually, all of his post-Strangelove films got a lot of mixed to bad reviews upon release. 2001 was panned both by The New York Times and Pauline Kael. Their stature has risen with the years. 2001 is only boring if you need constant narrative stimulation. Its’ form fit and enhanced its content.
I guess I must have missed Kael’s comment. I never read the Times anyway. Most of the reviews I read (trying to stir faulty memory) praised the flick. But I’ll demur...even with constant narrative stimulation, I think I’d find it pretty tedious.
