Word For The Day, July 31, 2012
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
usageaster [yoo-sij-as-ter]
-n
a self-styled authority on language usage.
[Usageaster is derived from the word usage and the suffix -aster which refers to something that imperfectly resembles or mimics the true thing.]
I worked at the polls his morning, and I was unpleasantly surprised at how many people who live outside this county and even this state think that owning a summer/vacation place here entitles them to vote here. I got tired of telling those people they can’t vote anywhere except in the precinct where their primary residence is-where they get their mail, etc.
A couple of them wanted to argue with me and I asked the election official there to explain it to them yet again-some of them actually said they had always voted in both places, and were pissed when we told them they were not going to do it again, not here, no way. Good God, no wonder states made laws requiring photo ID for voting-it lists the permanent/full time address as well...
Now, that is funny!
Nobody told me it was "Pix of the Grandkids Day".
This is Grandson of Grim (as of about 16 months ago).
And, the other half of the set, Granddaughter of Grim, who is almost 4 now...pic is from about a yr ago.
They are adorable! Is their mom the cap collector?
You lost me....but that's easier to do that you might think.
I remember you had a daughter who worked to help kids with cancer and sought pro athlete caps for donations at one time. She was a blonde too.
But, yes...their mom is a blonde.
Beautiful grand babies, grimmy! I’m unforch wayyy too young to have grandchildren! ; )
I was educated entirely in Texas and I know the correct useage of an apostrophe, as do my children. I guess each child learns differently.
That is unreal T! I’m so psyched that Cruz won by such a large margin!!!!! Wonderful win for the Tea Party
Both of my sons married Tennessee women. Perhaps that is where the mis-use of the apostrophe comes from, and they are too gentlemanly to correct their lovely wives. My daughters certainly know how to use it.
Hey, Ti, since you are routinlely doing double duty, i will go ahead and open a thread for you today? is that ok?
not sure why you are laughing as i have a child in HS still, which makes me prima facie WAYYYYY younger than you!
