ROME (Reuters) - The ancient Colosseum of Rome, where gladiators fought for their lives, is slanting about 40 cm (16 inches) lower on the south side than on the north, and authorities are investigating whether it needs urgent repairs.
Experts first noticed the incline about a year ago and have been monitoring it for the past few months,

Tests have also started to observe the effects that traffic on nearby busy roads may have on the monument.
Professor Giorgio Monti, from La Sapienza's construction technology department, warned there may be a crack in the base below the amphitheatre.
"The slab of concrete on which the Colosseum rests, which is like a 13-metre (yard)-thick oval doughnut, may have a fracture inside it," he told the newspaper.

Just in - The Colosseum lies on Bush’s fault.
Heard that early in the AM, the City of Rome has rocks trucked in and dumped near the Colosseum. This is so tourists don’t eventually take all of the Colosseum one rock at a time.
Nothing lasts forever.
George W. Bush?
The Catholic Church?
Maybe Israel. (Maybe Vespasian's Jewish prisoners of war deliberately sabotaged the construction of the Colosseum A.K.A. the Flavian amphitheater.)
Several years ago I saw on the news that a French town had severe flooding. The water destroyed all 11 bridges in the town except one.
That one was built by the Romans. They had an unbelievably sound system of construction.
Obama to Romans: they didn’t build that!
bttt
Ooh, look! A stray building! It needs love...
Time to mudjack it.
We already own 4 stray buildings, dear. No more.
Hide the incline...
Start looking for world-wide, but especially here in the US, “Save the Colosseum” fund raisers. Italy, as a country, is running on empty in the pocketbook. Formerly known as the Amphitheatrum Flavium in antiquity, I am enough of a historian to be willing to donate a few denarius [denarii?] to such a cause.
I wish we had more time , it seemed like there was something around every corner that had been there for a long long time, the Vatican, Pantheon, Forum and riding a double decker for two days wiped us out.. could have used a week at least.. all build w/o union bosses. ;-]
Built by the same contractors who built the wood arena at Fidenae?

They will divide the bill between the USofA, Great Britain and the Germans since we fought over Rome during WW2. Since the USofA and the Germans are the richest, they will bill us and lets us fight over the check. Of course we will have to borrow from the Chinese for our share while still paying into the IMF, World Bank and other Eurocentric beneficiaries.
So Lucius, do you wish our President had followed your namesake and refused power? "Hic situs est Rufus, pulso qui Vindice quondam Imperium asseruit non sibi sed patriae."
Quamdiu stat Colisæus, stat et Roma; quando cadet colisæus, cadet et Roma; quando cadet Roma, cadet et mundus.
Heh. Tell me about it. The engineers obviously screwed up their soil analysis.
