BOSTON, July 27, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Boston Mayor Thomas Menino has backpedaled on remarks that he would keep Chick-fil-A off city grounds because the head of the fast food chicken restaurant supports traditional marriage - but maintaining that he hopes the chain will stay out of Boston.
Menino told the Boston Herald Thursday that he cant actually stop the restaurant from opening there, despite his staunch opposition to its pro-family position.
I cant do that. That would be interference to his rights to go there, Menino sai
Menino had warned it will be very difficult for Chick-fil-A to obtain licenses for a restaurant in Boston, where the chain was reportedly looking to open a location, after Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy defended his companys donation to anti-gay groups such as Focus on the Family.
Chick-fil-A doesnt belong in the city of Boston, Menino had said.
The remarks drew criticism from unexpected corners, including a Boston Globe editorial that chastised the mayor for not recognizing the company heads right to religious beliefs - even as Chicago mayor and former Obama Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel anathematized Chick-fil-A in similar terms.
In remarks the Boston Herald captured on video Thursday, Menino cast his opposition to Cathys stance as a matter of personal opinion. Thats my personal opinion, as mayor I can express myself as well as anybody else. I just dont think he should come to Boston, and feed off the people of our city who are really a city that welcomes gay marriage, welcomes inclusion, and welcomes diversity, he said.
Asked by another reporter in the Herald video whether Menino felt the same way towards the Boy Scouts and the Roman Catholic Church, who also do not promote gay rights, Menino responded, Theyre not funding organizations who are anti-gay. Theyre not funding them, okay? Its a different story.
No, you jackass, they're not "funding" them - they ARE them!
What a maroon.
I never knew Menino was gay.
All liberal men are gay in some way. If they weren’t they’d be conservative.
Good point.
It is said that if you can’t wish someone well you should wish nothing. However, given the self-stated “values” of Mayor Menino and Rahm Emanuel I wish them all the benefits that their Liberal Progressive views support.
May their airline pilots, surgeons and limo drivers all be on “medical” marijuana.
May their children and grandchildren be mentored, schooled and influenced by members of LGBT and mature to reflect those values. I especially hope their favorite groups will be in charge of their sons sports aspirations.
I hope that the elements of society that they have so zealously defended will join the Chicago gang bangers in supporting the “values” of their beloved city and anihilate as many of each other as possible to make room for more. After all, California and Detroit should share the wealth.
Rahm says if we don’t share Chicago values we should keep our distance. Doesn’t he know that’s just what those with real values want to do? If only we could get them all to go to places that support them instead of them trying to steamroll over us.
Why is it that some of the most prominent pro-abortion pro gay right catholics are..... still catholics?
Pelosi, the Kennedy clan and so forth. Why has not the catholic church excommunicated them?
I'm just asking because I really don't know.
Perhaps he should talk with his Bishop
That was not posturing. Menino absolutely intended to follow through with his threats - just as he has in the past. If the mayor doesn’t want something Inspectional Services makes sure whatever it is - it doesn’t happen in Boston.
Menino’s a bigger “chickie” than the restaurant chain he hates.
Hey Mister Big Shot Mayor, why won’t you tell your “rightwing hater” opponents to go f*** themselves? Why don’t you say “come and get me, coppers!” to all your critics?
Eh, Meminimum-o? Eh, tough guy?
How soon can Chick FillA open a franchise - or several - in newly business friendly MAINE?
I would expect the gey mafia would try to infiltrate the employee base in any new franchises and try to sabotage them from within - contaminate the food, create and then report health “violations” and such. That’s pretty much how they operate as best I can tell.
Employees Would have to be vetted carefully, with lawyers standing by to defend against “discrimination” law suits.
Maybe but the anti-boycott seems to be having some success. I think he is trying to backpedal. If you were completely right the announcement that he lacked the authority to ban them would have been much quieter. With this announcement he lost most of the points he gained with the gay lobby.
Will his parish priest have the b@ll$ to refuse him Holy Communion?
Nah, if he had kept up the criticism, he would have been put into the same anti-business issue with Obama and Elizabeth Warren. All he wanted to do was send a message of intimidation to business owners, not to support the defense of marriage.
