I agree.I won’t be watching any basketball!
Brundage was a anti-semitic bastard.
Re: Beach Curling Conspiracy
Beach Curling is not popular on Manhattan’s East Side. Hardly anyone plays it, and no one watches it.
NBC’s policy can be summed up in one sentence:
“If Anna Wintour won’t watch, then no one can watch.”
Australia, right?
Pretty much. ABC was so much better, even when they did there "Up Close and Personal" segments, they were still done well, especially when they showcased the Soviet athletes, like Vasily Alexeyev.
Sympathies...those near the Canadian border have an alternative.
TOOOO much advertisements!
Also, I wanted to see real substance in equestrian events and boxing but only tiny excerpts are shown!
I always DVR the olympics because there are so many commercials, human non-interest stories, and general yapping that I can watch an evening's events in an hour.
I was trying to see which Universities’ current or former athletes would be most represented in London. Florida is sending 37, I think only USC is sending more.
“Now, theres no monolithic bad guy to root against”
I dunno - “USA! USA!” will probably be seen as hate speech by much of the rest of the world. Pitiful...
People near the Canadian border are lucky, they can get the Canadian coverage.
This and the end of the cold war are why I've lost interest. Being the underdog to the commies & their steriods made things so much more interesting.
The other thing I cannot stand is the networks apparent avoidance with coverage that might be construed as patriotic - I don't really care to see background stories on foreign atheletes (who aren't named Michelle Jenneke).
Xena! Love it.
You may prefer the BBC coverage then. You can probably get it on www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/tv
The BBC may not be able to admit that the capital of Israel is Jerusalem, but they do know how to handle sports events: and they always use expert commentators.
So many of the foreign athletes go to US schools, I think eventually instead of marching for their countries, they should march for the US University they went to.
The only time I’ve ever watched the Olympics was back during the Tonya Harding/Nancy Kerrigan mess, LOL. I couldn’t care less about it. Pro football is the only sport for me.
I am almost sure the BBC will not allow online access to their coverage outside of Britain, unless somehow how can fake a British IP Address.
I gave up watching the Olympics in the 80s. It wasn’t the medal count, but the endless parade of ‘sports’ that I had never heard of and didn’t WANT to know about. It was the 800 variations of who can swim fastest. It was when boxing became a style sport rather than who can knock the other guy on his butt sport.
When there are 10,000 events, it is a safe bet that 9,950 or more are boring.
That, and sports have umpires or referees. Not judges. You can judge someone’s performance playing a flute, but flute playing isn’t a sport.
The last straw for me was when NBC showed the Ladies Figure Skating finals from two years ago on tape delay despite that fact that it was happening in Vancouver. Of course, NBC spent more time on not showing the premier event of the Winter Olympics and they only showed perhaps a half a dozen routines. I remember when ABC was broadcasting and they showed every routine live.
Well the general rule is the first week of the Games are for the women (Gymnastics), and the second week is more for the men (Track and Field).
