The old couple in BF Kansas (damn you for that slur) is not owed mail service. Mail service is not a civil right.

according to the US Constituion, it is!

The founders understood that circumstances change. That’s why they gave us the freedom to change the Constitution. This is a perfect example of how wise they were.

“USPS goes to EVERY address in the USA EVERY day,...”

Not really. There is no home delivery in my town. I have to go to the post office to check if I got mail.

I’ve posted my thoughts about this before. The postal service is one of the few activities that the federal government is clearly authorized to operate. I think it’s amazing that the postal people will deliver a letter from me to someone’s house on the opposite side of this continent for 45 cents. I don’t even want to guess what Fed Ex or United Parcel would charge for that service.

I’m usually pretty good at complaining about the federal government, but when it comes to the post office, I’m not complaining.

In June 1788, the ninth state ratified the Constitution, which gave Congress the power “To establish Post Offices and post Roads” in Article I, Section 8. A year later, the Act of September 22, 1789 (1 Stat. 70), continued the Post Office and made the Postmaster General subject to the direction of the President. Four days later, President Washington appointed Samuel Osgood as the first Postmaster General under the Constitution. A population of almost four million was served by 75 Post Offices and about 2,400 miles of post roads.

If you are subsisting on a Postal pension, I’m sorry, I really really am. But you better figure out a way to survive because it is going to disappear pretty soon.

You probably hate me for telling you this but it’s the truth.

I ship stained glass panels. Always UPS, never a problem. Last time, I made a mistake at Office Depot and shipped it USPS. The glass arrived broken. Office Depot only handles insurance for UPS, so I filed an online claim at usps.com. One week later, I had my insurance $$$. Today, I needed to ship again and went to USPS- they earned a 2nd chance.

I think USPS is trying to have good service and since they are cheaper, I’ll go with them.

Not true. USPS is self financing and does not use tax dollars. It never has.

It is mandated to self finance, and the reason it cannot right now is because mail volume has dropped so much with electronic messaging and transmission.

I support eliminating the Federal mandate to deliver mail but not eliminating the 2nd amendment.

Next canard?

I will say this about UPS’s signature required delivery,
Who can sign that electric tablet PDA denoting reciept clearly?

Nobody! That’s who!
An Orangutang could forge my signature on one of those and I would have no way to prove it. LOl

The postal deficit is due to Congress requiring the USPS to prefund employee health benefits for the next 75 years.

you left out the most important part..

So they can raid said fund.
