At least four dairies in Oregon's Willamette Valley have bought into the "new thing" in dairy farming: buying waterbeds for their cows.
"There's four or five dairies in the Willamette Valley that have them. It's really beginning to catch on around here," Kevin Krous with NW Dairy Service told KGW
The cow waterbed trend reportedly first began in Minnesota but is now starting to catch on the West Coast. For example, the Van Loon Dairy has purchased more than 300 such beds for their cows, at a cost of more than $100,000.
"As the cow gets ready to lie down, water moves to the front bag where her knees will come first therefore cushion it more. Less sores, less cows being stuck. Happier cows, happier milk," said Ben Van Loon.

And you aren’t the least bit embarrassed? In more civilized countries, a joke like that would receive punishment...
“Why not just get them Sleep Number beds?.”
Because that outfit dropped Rush when he was talking about that slut. No REAL MAN would support that company.
Cone on waterbeds for cows in Minnesota
Local farms that tried water beds got rid of them. What worked best is rubber grindings filled bags. $130 each.
BS meter just jumped off the desk and buried itself in the wall.
it this case that would be the Cow $h-t meter dairy farms have very few bulls. Same $h_t different flavor.
This sounds crazy!
Whatever happened to cows laying down of a bed of hay?
Those waterbeds for cows have been out close to 20 years...made of thick, very tough rubber material to withstand the hoofs, etc.
A local dairy farm was equipped with them, and also had all the milking of hundreds of cows done by robot milking machines, which needed no direct human operation.
Feeding, etc. was all controlled by computer; each cow being recognized by the computer when she entered the milking stall by an ID tag on their neck chain. The computer knew how much milk she produced daily, how much feed she needed, etc.
A family squabble caused its downfall. Now the cows are all gone, the dairy store, gift shop, farm market is closed and someone else has leased the ground and is doing crop farming, only. All because of feudin’ over money!
Farmer Van LOON, you say?!?!
Don’t ask about the mirrors on the barn ceiling.
