It wasn’t all sweetness and light back then either. I see Paul Robeson in Native Land being advertised next to Cagney in Yankee Doodle Danday. Smaller ad for the commie Robeson, but the lefties had a choice, too. Nowadays, Yankee Doodle Dandy would be considered pornographic or fringe and Robeson would be shown in schools.
We won WWII, didn’t we?

“Pride of the Yankees” is the greatest sports movie ever made, and one of my all-time favorite movies.
“Yankee Doodle Dandy” is another all-time favorite.
They’re great “American” movies.
