Southern Baptist have run for POTUS and some have actually won. There were more attacks from people on Free Republic than the Media.

At its core the Democrat party is atheist, and so it doesn't matter what religion a GOP candidate practices. That religion is going to take a beating from the Democrats and their "mainstream" newsrooms.
