PHOENIXVILLE, Pa., - Fans of the 1958 horror classic "The Blob" came to Phoenixville, Pa., Friday to celebrate the movie at the theater where its most famous scene was filmed.
The climax of "BlobFest" at the Colonial Theatre was a re-enactment of that scene, in which the audience runs out screaming and trying to escape The Blob, KYW-TV, Philadelphia reported. The day for the festival was chosen, of course, because it was Friday the 13th.
The low-budget movie about a pulsating alien life form that grows bigger and bigger by ingesting everything in its path featured Steven McQueen in his first lead role and helped make him into the star Steve McQueen.
One family made it to the festival from Alaska, although they also took in a family reunion in Toms River, N.J.
"This is what I wanted to do for my 60th," Diane Bongiovanni said.
Many attendees came in costume, like Susy Conrad, who wore a fetching hat fashioned from foil.
"The foil hat of course so the aliens can't suck out my brain, but I wanted to do it as a fashion statement at the same time," she told KYW.
The theater planned to show "The Blob" through the weekend.
"The Blob was made in our town and we're very proud of that," Mary Foote, who manages the theater, said.
The Blob is a fitting metaphor for todays Federal Government. Eats up everything in it’s path.
I was 10 the movie scared the crap out of me.....
Love the “AIR CONDITIONED” signs, back then it was one of the only places that was and people went to the show just to get cool...Not be cool.
And the King of Kool starred in The Blob!
Beware of The Blob, it creeps
And leaps and glides and slides
Across the floor
Right through the door
And all around the wall
A splotch, a blotch
Be careful of The Blob

It won’t do squat in case of a Zombapocalypse.
If they remake “The Blob,” Michael Moore can play the lead.
Two years ago I helped move the National Motorcycle Museum. I got to move several of Steve’s bikes including his Indian chopper that he named “The Blob”
The Five Blobs had the big hit, but the song was also waxed by the Zanies, a Los Angeles group, on the Dore label.
The Blob--The Zanies (1958)
The development of The Blob as a monster, in science fiction, continued, with some interesting developments.
One of these was that The Blob, while itself simple, could to some extent change based on the complexity of the lifeforms it absorbed. Several authors pursued variations of this.
One took place on an alien planet. In this case, The Blob was a black liquid substance. It absorbed a scientist, then some of it reformed into a 10 foot high image of the scientist, with her knowledge and memories. No longer aggressive, this led to some interesting conversations with her former colleagues, including her ex boyfriend.
In a different story on a populated alien planet, The Blob took on Buddhist overtones. Older people would put a piece of this pinkish Blob on their skin, and it would slowly grow on them. During this process they would begin to psychically commune with all the other lifeforms, including people, The Blob had absorbed. Eventually, with a large part of their body covered with Blob, they would go into underground caves where most of The Blob lived, and their body would be totally consumed, yet their mind would remain in communion with all its other food.
I hope they left in a more orderly fashion this time.
Never scream BLOB!!! in a crowded theater.
