I've been out of the loop on this one, but my sister was just telling me about PCs and Macs losing their internet access due to a DNSChanger virus. Apparently, her PC is infected.
First I'm hearing about it, but it seems that it's old news. Anyway, I did a quick search and found an article on the tech blog at MSNBC, that has a link to see if your computer is working ok. Mine came up Green and they didn't try to sell my antivirus software, so I'm feeling reasonably okay here.
Link is to article is here: http://www.technolog.msnbc.msn.com/t...ck-your-736963

I wonder if BHO’s new July 6th executive order is tied to this matter. Create the perfect crisis.

There’s easily been 10 stories about it on FR and it’s way overblown to start with.
You really want to turn your computer over to the government? Why is the gov’t so worried about this one and not dozens of others?
The gov’t HAS to be installing some kind of malware.

So everybody has to log on to a FBI recommended website to check their computer?
I wonder if this is a ruse to gain control of the internet prior to the election?
I think will just sit this one out and see what happens. I can always switch to my backup if it's true.

I posted on another thread that MalwareByte's anti-malware, which is not only free but a great product, will take care of the DNSChanger virus/worm/trojan horse. AND.... it has nothing to do with the gub'mint.
Reagan said government is part of the problem. I agree - never trust the government!

If I upgrade from Windows 95 to a newer version, do I still need to go to the link?

Once the FBI shut down the operation, it built a safety net of new servers to redirect traffic from those infected with the virus. Why would they do that? Is the FBI in the business of running Internet servers?
Like I said on another thread.....I guess I'm slow but I don't understand why anti-virus programs were not just simply updated. If the problem is that you can't update definitions on line why hasn't the fix been on sale at Best Buy for the last 5 years?

If this is to be believed, only the Darwin Award candidates will be affected.

I’m waiting for all the FReepers knocked off line by this doomsday malware to chime in from the new computers they were forced to buy...
Waiting...
