Commodore OS Vision

Commodore USA has announced the availability of a new beta release of Commodore OS Vision 1.0, a Linux Mint-based distribution designed to appear like a modernised version of previous Commodore computer systems: "Commodore OS Vision beta 9 online update. Release notes: added the ability to restore the GRUB boot menu from live mode after a Windows install; fixed Plymouth animated loading screen problems for most (but not all) graphics cards; added functionality to turn animated wallpaper on and off, enabled by selecting in the menu; tweaked Firefox CSS rendering to no longer follow the Commodore OS theme, resulting in a more standard page render; tweaked user's Commodore OS theme for gedit to be more C64-like; added more classic retro freeware games; fixed Commodore OS official wallpapers...." Visit the project's download page to read the complete changelog. Download the live DVD image via BitTorrent (64-bit systems only): CommodoreOS_beta9.iso (3,882MB).

I happened across this a few days ago and just downloaded the .iso files. Have you tried it yet?

But can it play the games? Some of the best computer games ever were on the Commie.

I just finished installing Ubuntu server on my Mac in Virtualbox to work on my new LAMP business plan. Its finally nice to have a project to make me have fun teeming out. Wish me luck. I’ll have to take a look at the Commodore site, I had no idea they were still around, or is this just a shell company with a handy name like Packard-Bell back in the 90s?

Per the website, yes - Linux-based emulators are pre-packaged. The second .iso file is the “extras” disc, including a bunch of the games.

As a rule of thumb, machines with similar specifications to Commodore USA models, are likely to be compatible. Machines must be 64-bit capable.

The Commodore 64 was a 64 bit machine? Nah. 'Twas 8 bit. What is amiss here?

Not this release yet...I had downloaded an installed the previous release on a HDD.

I have KINGWIN KF-1000-BK 3.5" Internal hot swap rack

Installed im most of my active cases...and got it running.

Then other issues intervened....

Want to try this one.
