The best car made. Style, Utility, Audacity Rolls-Royce 10EX Concept Car, 1925. "The experimental New Phantom"

In 1925 Rolls Royce selected one of their new Phantom I chassis No. 10 EX and ordered a special open sports body from the coach builders Barker and Co. of London. This departure from their traditionally staid image was inspired by Claude Johnson's desire to develop a modern equivalent to their famous Continental Silver Ghost.

Royce instructed his brilliant young designer I.F. Evernden to tackle this task.

You’re a good soul.

I shouldn’t have popped off at you-—twice no less, and yet you are still so gracious.

Actually I didn’t know a thing about the Citroen and appreciate your comments. It appears that of the two of us I was definitely the one Fuller of it!

Either the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile, or the Batmobile, obviously.

People forget, those things were fairly popular in their day. Head stylist Dick Teague did the best he could, considering that his original design specs were for a much smaller car with a Wankel engine.

* The GM Wankel, If my memory is correct, they were to be a customer.
* The one they spent some 2 billion late 60's early 70's dollars to design, develop and production tool for.
* One of my gnomes told me they made 1 or 2 for tax purposes off the production line then scrapped it all.

Dang shame, now Mazda has killed their Wankel for good.

With it's smooth-ness and small size, I can only imagine how much different the Pacer would have been with the GM Wankel.

All parts are built in America, nothing comes from offshore.

Only Warren Buffet, Zucky Zuckerberg, and Bill Gates could afford it, LOL.

Links for what? a car called the Tucker?

I never heard of a Tucker until I saw the movie, and then I read about the advancements it had and how much Detroits Big Three hated that as they could not afford to have the same safety features.

“Dang shame, now Mazda has killed their Wankel for good.”

Mazda claims it is going to come back. I don’t know if it will.

The RX8 got 20 MPG on a good day.

Government mandated fuel economy standards killed it.

The EPA has upped CAFE standard to something like 62 MPG starting soon.

We won’t be able to buy anything more than a four banger or a stupid hybrid after that.

Ah, same here. (Saw the movie, and the wikipedia article)
I was rather hoping that there was an “updated version” as your post seemed to imply.

Yeah the Wankel has many positive attributes, especially for performance.
Unfortunately fuel economy and emissions aren’t up to the best piston engine levels, and those are the goals (set by the govt) today.

I saw the Weinermobile here in Calgary several years ago, parked at a hotel.
Had a sign saying it was taking part in the Tour de Franks. Laughed out loud.

Cheers,
Jim

:’) There’s a Detroit-area museum (has a lot of cars, heh) with one of the retired Weinermobiles, that’s the only time I’ve seen one.

I spent some time casing it. /rimshot

Ironically, there’s a “no smoking” sign nearby. /rimshot

Okay, I’m out.

The best and gorgeous was the Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost (1906-1926). It was/is ELEGANT.
