You can find state munis on the secondary markets here in the USA for 4 & 5 percent. Buy them in your own state & they are double tax free.

Be sure to check ratings of muni bonds. Do not buy bonds of cities/counties/states in deep financial mess. Such as city of Stockton ans state of CA.
