Taxman (Beatles)
Lyrics You Love ^

Posted on 06/30/2012 11:06:43 AM PDT by Lorianne

One, two, three, four... Hrmm! One, two, (one, two, three, four!)

Let me tell you how it will be; There's one for you, nineteen for me. 'Cause I'm the Taxman, Yeah, I'm the taxman.

Should five per cent appear too small, Be thankful I don't take it all. 'Cause I'm the taxman, Yeah, I'm the taxman.

(if you drive a car, car;) - I'll tax the street; (if you try to sit, sit;) - I'll tax your seat; (if you get too cold, cold;) - I'll tax the heat; (if you take a walk, walk;) - I'll tax your feet.

'Cause I'm the taxman, Yeah, I'm the taxman.

Don't ask me what I want it for, (ah-ah, mister Wilson) If you don't want to pay some more. (ah-ah, mister heath) 'Cause I'm the taxman, Yeah, I'm the taxman.

Now my advice for those who die, (taxman) Declare the pennies on your eyes. (taxman) 'Cause I'm the taxman, Yeah, I'm the taxman.

And you're working for no one but me.

Taxman!

___ from The Beatles's album, Revolver

The lyrics referring to “one for you, nineteen for me” and “five percent” are not an exageration. At the time they wrote the song, the highest tax bracket in the UK, which the Beatles fell into, was really 95%!

That’s why pretty much every British rock star of any prominence from the 60’s ended up relocating to the US or other countries.

Show me a better song by a “conservative Republican” group, regarding taxes.

John Lennon was a big Reagan supporter at the time of his death.

McCartney sure is, I don’t know about Ringo. The other two are dead which, I guess by default, makes them liberal democrats.

Yeah, you’d think they might wake up when they were victims of the state, but just like the Hollywood stars, they seem to be content to live like hypocrites.

I remember when the song came out, Harrison was vilified by much of the rock press i.e. leftist cretins as being greedy because he thought the government taking 95% of his income was too much. They couldn’t understand why Harrison wanted to keep a little more than a tiny portion of what he earned instead of letting the state waste all his money.

there was an article in our local paper today concerning a cigarette tax situation in Washington state. It seems that there are “roll your own” type shops there where the proprietor invests $30,000 or so in a machine that will roll cigarettes. Private individuals come in, buy the raw materials, and proceed to roll themselves a carton of cigarettes for about $30.00. The tax on a regular carton of cigs there is $30.25 ($3.025) per pk. They have decided to make all these shops “cigarette manufacturing companies” subject to all the labeling, taxing, environmental restrictions that real manufacturers face. Several have announced that they were going out of business, many many people were laid off from their jobs and the government strikes again. The Obama administration was involved because tobacco is federally regulated and he had to sign the law changes.
