Did the Republicans ever offer up an alternative health care bill?
June 28,12

Though it wouldnt have had the chance to pass, most likely, but did the Republicans ever offer up an alternative bill, showing their ideas for health care coverage? It seems that had the populace been shown another way to control costs by capping legal claims against physicians, etal and/or controlling costs by abusing the medical industry that there might have been something to compare obamascare to. Just wondering.

Yes many of them. Coburn, Ryan, Price, etc. offered bills. There were/are plenty of alternatives.

They were ignored and not even permitted to sit at the big table.

I believe they did or tried but Pelosi wouldn’t let any Republican bill see the light of day. And as you know, democrats don’t compromise. She controlled the House and the agenda items.

No. You didn’t hear about them, because the liberal press said nothing about them.

There's another article which claims that the individual mandate actually came from the Heritage Foundation back in the Clinton years.

What pisses me off even more about this is liberals who support Obamacare say, "Something had to be done."

No. Nothing needed to be done. Nothing would have been a millon times better than what we have now.

Furthermore, the American public has been sold a lie that healthcare doesn't exist for the poor. That has never been the case.

People who think our system is so bad, should go to Britain and Canada to see how it works there. Better yet, try Mexico, Vietnam, China, Colombia,......

I must have missed something. Did the Democrats do something to control the cost of healthcare?

If it's a pile of cr*p, and the current situation is better than a pile of cr*p, why must we offer up any alternative?

How about this for an alternative - pay your own way. Or beg for charity. Charity cases aren't allowed to smoke, drink, ski dive, ski or any do anything else risky. Doctors and hospitals are allowed only one price list, but may allow a discount for cash.

There is no tort reform in Obamacare.

The lawyer lobby is among the biggest donor to Democrats in states like Texas and elsewhere.

John Edwards would cry if he couldn’t chase ambulances and make child-voices in court.

Yes, and amendments to this. Pelosi shot them all down. Didn’t even let them get to the floor. Wouldn’t let republicans speak against it.

The article is inaccurate. The individual mandate predated the Clinton years. It goes back to a 1989 Heritage Foundation paper on healthcare.

Republicans have offered alternatives for twenty years usually in response to Democrat efforts and did so at time of the ObamaCare debate. Nothing was allowed to come up for debate, however.

Frankly Republicans had time to address this issue in the first six years of W's presidency. Instead we got Mediscare Part D thanks to Santorum and others.

It wasn't Bush's fault, he was busy being CIC. It was a lazy and corrupted Congress's fault. It's a shame Newt wasn't able to be Speaker during W's term.

Members drew up bills, many of them, but they weren’t allowed to come up for debate and votes.

Some members tried to share their ideas with Obama but met a stonewall and a torrent of lies about their efforts.
