Word For The Day, June 26, 2012
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
gauche [gohsh]
-adj
lacking social grace, sensitivity, or acuteness; awkward; crude; tactless:
[174555; < French: awkward, left; Middle French, derivative of gauchir to turn, veer < Germanic]
Is this the daughter still in Catholic school? I hope not. What a thing to have to put up with at that age.
Is the university part of the city like Pitt? It’s not its own little enclave?
I don’t know XS, she might want to rethink that decision. If he could add cross dresser to his personality traits your daughter could be looking at doubling her wardrobe.
Such a strange world you like in. ;-)
Remember the old Steve Martin routine about people asking him if he was “bi?”
“Live in,” that is.
SU campus is smack dab in the middle of the city with all that that ensues.
no she is LD so is in a private secular school specializing in LD kids. Catholic schools aren’t immune either though. This kid dated a friend of her’s and it was the friend who said something to her about it on the phone yesterday and xsrisingsenior said WHAT? and her friend said, oh, didn’t i mention that? and she said ummmmmm....NO!
correct, exactly like Pitt in that respect. GW is that way too. is CMU an enclave? I have to say i had never been over there. That’s the diff i think, and that’s what i told him.
and much like Pitt, it has the hospitals right there, so you hear sirens all night on campus etc. That took some getting used to for me, to be able to sleep at Pitt, when i was from RURAL washington Twp,Kiski Area where there were forest sounds only.
I don’t remember that skit.....remind me
Yes, there are definite borders and a “campus” to CMU (and most of the other schools in the city as well, like Duquesne and Chatham). One big hunk of private property that is “the campus,” is what I mean.
A mindful Peeng to our own Marty...
“Well, I studied a little bit of Spanish in high school, but not enough to really be ‘bi.’ But I didn’t want to look unsophisticated so I said “Yeah, I’m bi.”
They said “We’re having a party later on and we’d like you to come. We’re having some S&M people coming over.”
I said “Great, Spaniards and Mexicans.”
Sirens and helicopters. We fly a lot of serious cases to Upstate Medical.
Pitt, Syracuse and George Washington U do not have an enclosed campus. U of Dallas did.
clever
My mom liked this word and “uncouth” when we kids did things like say “phlegm” at the dinner table.
Y'know, anything I could say here would just get me banned.
