NEW YORK (AP) -- LeRoy Neiman, the painter and sketch artist best known for evoking the kinetic energy of the world's biggest sporting and leisure events with bright quick strokes, died Wednesday at age 91.

I remember collecting his art at Burger King in the 70s.

"Pawn Stars" had one of his paintings this week. I can't remember if they bought it but Rick did comment on how Neiman’s paintings are selling well now due to his being 91 as paintings increase in value after an artist dies. Creepy.

I bought a serigraph of The Beach at Cannes years ago. It now hangs at my son's house. After seeing that one on Pawn Stars the other night I googled it and discovered it is pretty valuable now. Wish I could remember how much I paid for it.

No doubt he will get the Norman Rockwell revisionist treatment from critics.

I’ve always been ambivalent abut his work but there can be no doubt that it is instantly recognizable and compelling even when a bit mundane or trite.

RIP to an original.

If you check liveauctioneers.com from time to time you might find the print.

Look under the’ sold ‘ section. To get prices you need to register but they've never sent me one email after I did so.

But if you do find it on the web site, do not want to register, just FReep mail me and I'll find out the price.

The LeRoy Neiman site that came up when I googled it said it was worth $11,400. That really surprised me.

This was the painting.

That series ( on the show ) had only 300 prints. Due to the condition Rick didn’t offer him what he wanted so he took it home.

Never a fan, but he did paint my local bar.

It's gone now (replaced by a supermarket), but I hang out at the pub across the street - just got home from there, as a matter of fact...

Neiman was a World War II veteran who participated in the invasion of Normandy and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a self-described workaholic who seldom took vacations and had no hobbies. He worked daily in his home studio at the Hotel des Artistes near Central Park, which he shared with his wife.

Neiman is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet Byrne Neiman.

Love his work. I have Sinatra prints and “Night of the heavyweight Champions” framed and hanging in the man cave.
