To answer your question:

Marcus Luttrell (born November 7, 1975) is a former Petty Officer First Class[4] and United States Navy SEAL. He received the Navy Cross for his actions in 2005 facing Taliban fighters during Operation Red Wings.

I know exactly who he is, I read his book "Sole Survivor" and it just so happens that his Labrador puppy was shot by a couple of punks out for a "good time" and just killing dogs at random. Luttrell heard the shots saw the pickup truck and armed himself as he took off after them. He chased them thru the entire county and was on the phone with the police who BEGGED him not to kill the two punks before they could get them. As they were finally arrested, they taunted Luttrell about his dead pup and offered to do it again for his next dog. They scoffed as the cops tried to tell them what he'd done in combat and that they were lucky to be alive... Later one got a three year (IIRC) jail term for cruelty to an animal. Somehow, I sorta wish he'd caught them before the cops did. But then, this HERO would have been the one punished. Of course the way these guys take care of each other, I'm sure there would be SEALs lined up around the block to dish out some rough justice if he wanted it... He'd be at a book signing with a GO-ZILLION witnesses when those two signed off the planetary rosters and into Hell. Dish out the death penalty for killing a dog? As far as I'm concerned, hell yeah! My Newfoundlands are my children. It's enough to go to war over. Remember the movie Shooter ?? "You don't understand, these boys killed my DOG!"
