The Verdict was good and I hate Paul Newman
The way the movie ended, I always wondered if both that excaped were skins....His memories were a lot like the womans.....

Conan the Barbarian
Think I saw some of this on TV. Didn't think much of it, even as a fan of Ah-nold's movies.
The Road Warrior
Still a classic. Very very watchable for the car chase sequences, even if the quasi-Cold War/post-apocalyptic theme didn't go quite as planned.
Rocky III
Don't recall if I ever saw it. Think so.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan
The best of the Star Trek movies. Still looks beautiful.
Poltergeist
Saw it years and years ago. Can remember the waves it made at the time, but frankly I can hardly remember anything about it, apart from the ending and that short old lady with the funny voice.
E.T.
It surprises me that E.T. seems almost forgotten today, considering what a major event it was at the time. I grew up in a small town with a single screen that eventually got movies, usually a few weeks after their first release. My parents actually drove us to the nearest city so we could see E.T. when it was new.
Blade Runner
30 years old and still doesn't look dated. One of my favourites.
The Thing
Also still holds up well. Great movie if you're into being creeped out.
Secret of NIMH
Don't know if I'd call this a "classic," as it is virtually unknown. It was notable for being Don Bluth's attempt to make an animated feature outside of the Disney fold. It was critically well-received, but as I recall not too successful at the box office. I saw it again about a year ago, and thought it has held up well.
Tron
Visually stunning in 1982; I think it still holds up today, even if the CGI obviously shows its age. Of course, now that a computer is an everyday tool and everyone has one or several, the concept seems rather silly. Which is why I wasn't nearly as impressed with Tron: Legacy despite the gorgeous eye-candy.

Pink Floyd’s The Wall
A pretty good movie, but I'm a die-hard Pink Floyd fan, so of course I'd say that.
Fast Times and Ridgemont High
When the parts you remember most vividly are Phoebe Cates' upper chestal area, it's a pretty good indicator that the movie as a whole isn't quite as good as you fondly remember it being.
All told, not a bad list though. I've got 6 of 'em in my collection.

The Year of Living Dangerously
Interestingly, I cited this movie as preferable to Road Warrior in my earlier analysis of the original list of 15. Great performances by Mel Gibson, Sigourney Weaver & Linda Hunt. I still think it falls short of being a classic.
The Verdict
Good story. Perhaps Paul Newman's best performance ever - other than Slap Shot. OK, the Slap Shot comment was a joke (sort of). I think a film needs to change the film industry or society AND be so beloved by audiences to acheive classic status. The Verdict was very, very good, but it's not quite a classic.

dfwgator is correct - how could they leave this film out? I LOVE this movie as much today as I did 30 years ago. Absolute classic.
Gandhi
This biopic won the Academy Award and is a very good film with a stellar performace by Ben Kingsley. But it changed nothing in film or American society. I saw it 30 years ago and liked it, but I feel no urgency to ever watch this movie again. Not a classic.
First Blood
I watched this movie just a few weeks ago. It's a great, gritty and authentic-feeling action film. I'm also a big fan of Brian Dennehy. But as a "trapped in Viet Nam" veteran film this film was made 5 years too late to have any social relevance to anyone born after 1960. Good, not very good film. Not a classic.
My dad is a television repairman. He has the ULTIMATE set of tools.
I liked Tron as a kid, but haven't seen it in ages. Road Warrior was good as was the original Conan.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High: Another favorite for the time. Not so much anymore. Sean Penn has a lot to do with that.

That was the last time I ever did my hair to look like a celebrity. I liked Weaver’s tousled curls, and so I got my hair permed. Didn’t take into account the fact that my hair was thicker than hers and my perm was tighter. I felt like a dandelion. For weeks.
