Noonan: What's Changed After Wisconsin...The Obama admin. suddenly looks like a house of cards.
the Wall Street Journal ^ | 6/7/2012 | Peggy Noonan

Posted on 06/07/2012 6:17:46 PM PDT by Beave Meister

What happened in Wisconsin signals a shift in political mood and assumption. Public employee unions were beaten back and defeated in a state with a long progressive tradition. The unions and their allies put everything they had into "one of their most aggressive grass-roots campaigns ever," as the Washington Post's Paul Whoriskey and Dan Balz reported in a day-after piece. Fifty thousand volunteers made phone calls and knocked on 1.4 million doors to get out the vote against Gov. Scott Walker. Mr. Walker's supporters, less deeply organized on the ground, had a considerable advantage in money.

But organization and money aren't the headline. The shift in mood and assumption is. The vote was a blow to the power and prestige not only of the unions but of the blue-state budgetary model, which for two generations has been: Public-employee unions with their manpower, money and clout, get what they want. If you move against them, you will be crushed.

Mr. Walker was not crushed. He was buoyed, winning by a solid seven points in a high-turnout race.

Governors and local leaders will now have help in controlling budgets. Down the road there will be fewer contracts in which you work for, say, 23 years for a city, then retire with full salary and free health care for the rest of your life—paid for by taxpayers who cannot afford such plans for themselves, and who sometimes have no pension at all. The big meaning of Wisconsin is that a public injustice is in the process of being righted because a public mood is changing.

Noonan: What's Changed After Wisconsin

What hasn't changed is that Peggy still writes like she's paid by the word.

President Obama's problem now isn't what Wisconsin did, it's how he looks each day—careening around, always in flight, a superfluous figure. No one even looks to him for leadership now. He doesn't go to Wisconsin, where the fight is. He goes to Sarah Jessica Parker's place, where the money is.

This image is key. It's very tough to undo, once created.

He'll need riots, a new war, or a bad hurricane to begin to erase the image.

He can gin up the first two, but not the third, unless Rove loans him the machine.

Peggy Noonan used to be a strongly reliable conservative voice until sometime in the mid 2000s. She started caring too much about what the party circuit people in DC thought (and I suspect she was hitting the parties quite a bit!).

She started gushing over the Bamster early in 2008 and all the “cool kids” heaped praise on her....now she has woken up with one heck of a hangover and can’t quite believe what she did last night!

Sorry Peggy - fool me once, shame on you - I won’t give you a chance to fool me twice!

Peggy doesn’t care for Gov Walkers style and says so. didn’t she also dump on Sarah Palin if I remember correctly.

Peggy is an elitest who can’t figure out how real committed people win their battles and inspire others?

The voters in Wisconsin took measure of Gov Walker and went to the polls to beat back his enemies. They had his back Peggy they didn’t need an orator, they needed a leader who did what they asked of him.

So I hate to say it but fupn.

Wisconsin turned out for one of the first politicians to conservatively do what he said and stick by it.

Peggy; not so much.

No, Peggy; we will NOT forget that you betrayed all of America with your public support of this commie, muslim, Kenyan usurper in 2008.

Peggy made some observations I think are wrong, but in line with her poor judgement in the past five years or so.

First, there is not a major shift in the country away from Obama and his Czar’s socialism. The country did not vote for a socialist. Obama media created an image of a populist guy who would protect Amercians from corporate Treasury raiders and balance the Federal budget. He was elected because the media spun him as a racial healer for the country - the opposite of the racist just-us Deparment. He was elected because the media and McCain hid his radical, black racist background. So the country is where it has always been - right - although Pegs got confused hanging out with the limo crowd in New York City and being old, she got taken in by the reality show and chants.

Second, Bill Clinton has a method to his “madness”. Its not because he is old and losing control of himself in critizing Obama (although Pegs can’t say the same). He wants Obama as a one term guy because he thinks he can easily beat Romney in 2016 after conservative Americans get a load of the elitist globalist idiot that he is. Otherwise, Hillary would have to run on Obama’s failed record when America has sunk into Obama’s South African Marxist hell and hate the Democrat Party.

Peggy is a feeble image of her Regan days. But in her fading faculties, she fits in fine with the limo-liberals now.

Noonan knows where all the great DC cocktail parties happen and she intends to continue to be invited to them.
